WHAT IS SOCIAL WORK?

WHAT IS SOCIAL WORK?
Social workers are allied health professionals dedicated to assisting people improve their lives, with a focus on personal and social wellbeing.

A social worker advocates for fairness, social justice and human rights and celebrates difference. Social workers partner with people to address personal issues and structural barriers in their lives.

Social workers can provide psychotherapy and counselling for individuals or groups. They can help with navigating and accessing information, advice and support services.

Social workers take the time needed to build relationships with people so that together they can consider all aspects of their situation, including their strengths as well as the areas where they need help. They offer solutions, supports and pathways when things are complex or where there are multiple barriers.
