Hi, I’m Sarah Maxwell (she/her) and I am a social worker with over 16 years’ experience of working in the disability sector. I value difference and believe in providing a neurodiversity affirming approach. I acknowledge that I have much to learn and so I will take the lead from you and your family members, who I recognise as experts in your world.

I work across the lifespan and provide a trauma informed, developmental approach to service delivery, focussing on strengths and solutions. I enjoy helping individuals with a disability address interpersonal or mental health challenges so they can achieve a better quality of life. I also enjoy educating the sector and wider community on ways they can change and adapt, to be more disability affirming and inclusive.

For most of my career I have worked with adolescents and adults. I love helping young people recognise their unique strengths, interests and abilities to help them form a positive identity. I do this by encouraging clients to challenge the social construct of normalcy, to set their own term of reference and celebrate diversity and difference. I provide non-judgemental support and facilitate a process that can allow clients to choose their identity and reject those forced on them.

My work has taken me to remote and very remote communities across Far North Queensland and the Northern Territory and around regional NSW. I am passionate about providing support to those who too often go without, due to geographical obstacles. I can offer face to face services to anyone living on Bundjalung country including communities across Northern NSW and Qld border communities or video sessions to anywhere in Australia.
